How to become a member of SAGES
What is SAGES?
SAGES pools world-leading expertise in geoscience and environmental science from across Scotland’s research base, creating a multi-disciplinary alliance at the forefront of earth and environmental research. SAGES is a funded geoscience network – for mutual benefit of members and the ultimate beneficiaries of research. Find out more about the benefits of SAGES membership
We offer three types of membership:
* Research & Academic Staff membership (open to partner institute members only)
* Associate & SAGES Funded Post Graduate Associate membership (open to non-SAGES funded & SAGES funded PhD’s from partner institutes only)
* Affiliate membership (open to individuals who are not members of partner institutes for an annual fee)

Research & Academic Staff
Criteria
1) You must be employed by a SAGES partner institute.
2) Your area of research should be relevant to one or more SAGES Themes. These links may be indirect, the important point is that your area of research falls within the broad remit of SAGES (Geoscience & Society).
Application process
Please complete the online SAGES Research & Academic staff application and attach a short CV, e.g. your most recent two page RCUK-type CV.
Research & Academic Staff applications are approved by the SAGES Director.
SAGES associate and SAGES funded PhD STUDENTS
Criteria
1) You must be a member of a SAGES partner institute.
2) Your area of research must be linked to a SAGES Theme.
3) SAGES funded PhD students must have a 2nd supervisor from an external SAGES partner institute (not required for associate members).
Application process
Please complete the online SAGES Associate/Funded Post Graduate membership application and attach a short CV, e.g. your most recent two page RCUK-type CV.
PhD student applications are approved by the Convenor of the Graduate School.
Affiliate membership
Criteria
1) You are not a member of a SAGES partner institute.
2) Your area of research should be relevant to one or more SAGES Themes. These links may be indirect, the important point is that your area of research falls within the broad remit of SAGES (Geoscience & Society).
3) You have read and agree to the SAGES affiliate membership terms and conditions and agree to pay an annual subscription fee of £100 (including VAT).
Application process
Please complete the online SAGES affiliate membership application and attach a short CV, e.g. your most recent two page RCUK-type CV.
Affiliate membership applications are approved by the SAGES Director and Research and Innovation Committee.
Membership will be valid for 1 year from receipt of subscription payment.
