SAGES Director

We are delighted to announce that Professor Tom Crowley will take up the post of Director of SAGES this summer (2007). Tom Crowley comes from the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Duke University, North Carolina, where he is Nicholas Professor of Earth Systems Science.

Tom has a distinguished research record on the history and modelling of past climates, the effect of climate change on the biosphere, past carbon cycle variations, the effect of sea level rise on coastal processes, and the utilisation of palaeoclimate data to validate climate models and as a reference for future climate change projections. Tom is a member or chair of many influential international bodies and has much experience of advising politicians and governments on policy issues. Tom has many honours and awards and, for example, is a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea. We look forward to welcoming Tom to Scotland and meeting him at the launch of SAGES at the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 25th May. Exciting times!
