The SAGES Graduate School held their first retreat 11/12th November in the beautiful surroundings of The Burn in Edzell. Organised by the Theme 2 students, Nancy Burns, Audrey Wayolle, Helen Murray, Oliver Sus and Cheryl Wood, the retreat included overviews of the projects currently being undertaken by all of the PhD students affiliated to SAGES. There was also presentations by the SAGES theme leaders and guest speakers Cambell Gemmell of SEPA and Rob Ellam of SUERC together with a pub quiz and ceilidh on the Tuesday evening. The final day started with a walk along the banks of the River Esk followed by break-out sessions and a talk from Jeremy Upton of the Electronic Thesis Repository at St Andrews.

The SAGES Graduate School will host its 1st Annual Retreat at The Burn from the 11th-12th November. Please download a registration form should you wish to attend.

Dr. Austin is currently developing a 'light touch' annual review of student progress. This years submission deadline is the 12th September and forms will be both circulated and placed on the website in August 2008

Theme 2 students, including Oliver Sus, visited St Andrews on Friday, 11th July, 2008 for an informal meeting. It was decided that Theme 2 students would help run the annual retreat and plans are underway to develop a programme

The Graduate School are pleased to announce that 11 SAGES studentships have been awarded and accepted. Ten of the students will start in September 2008, with one student joining us in January 2009.
